Alexander Devine – Wilson Partners Corporate Charity Partner

Wilson Partners is committed to supporting community initiatives and holds core values focussing on family, health and well-being. We are proud to have chosen Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service as a chosen charity partner, who also reflect these core values.

The charity was founded by John and Fiona Devine in memory of their son Alexander who sadly passed away from a rare brain tumour in 2006. Their personal experience led them to realise a desperate need for a local children’s hospice service with a hospice facility in Berkshire.

Fiona and John Devine set up Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice in 2007, after the death of their precious first-born child from a brain tumour. Identifying the need for such a service in Berkshire, and being inspired by Alexanders braveness, kindness and strength, the charity was created. Now, 15 years later, Alexander Devine provides children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, and their families, the specialist care and support that they need.

More than just clinical care, Alexander Devine’s holistic and bespoke approach aims to provide the best possible support for each child and family. Whether it is at the children’s hospice in Maidenhead or out in the community in a family’s home, hospital or school. Its range of services include: Respite Care, Specialist Play, Symptom Management, Family Support, End of Life Care and Bereavement Support.

At its hospice, the facilities open up opportunities for children and their siblings to experience fun, joy and adventures, and help families make precious memories for as long as they have. These include a hydrotherapy pool, sensory room, music room, games room, outdoor playground and sensory garden, six children’s bedrooms, two self-contained family flats and a bereavement suite with its own garden.

The children’s hospice service is free of charge for families but it costs around £2.3 million a year just to maintain its current level of care. With very minimal government funding, the charity is almost entirely reliant on donations, fundraising and gifts in Wills to meet the costs of running our its service. Which means every penny donated makes a huge difference to those it supports.

Tai Bishop, Fundraiser at Alexander Devine, thanked the team at Wilson Partners for their support:

“We are incredibly grateful that Wilson Partners has chosen Alexander Devine as its charity partner. Kicking things off with its Three Peak Challenge in June, we’ve already been so impressed with the team’s commitment to raising as much vital funds as possible. No doubt it will be an exciting year of fundraising and we hope everyone has lots of fun along the way.”

Emma Montgomerie, Head of Employee Experience, from Wilson Partners said “Wilson Partners’ involvement with Alexander Devine is something we as a team feel passionate about. The charity offers life enhancing care to children and their families and we whole-heartly support this cause.”

Fundraising is ongoing for Alexander Devine to continue supporting and providing its much-needed children’s hospice service. The funds ensure Alexander Devine’s care team can continue to reach out and be there for children and families that need them. Wilson Partners is committed to raising funds for such an inspirational charity through a variety of demanding activities that our team have challenged themselves with…the first one being the 3 Peak Challenge in June!
