From 13 October 2025, Companies House will require all users of its WebFiling service to sign in using GOV.UK One Login. The new centralised sign-in system for government services. This change is part of a wider government initiative to streamline and secure access to online services under a single login platform.
What’s changing?
The WebFiling portal will no longer support existing login credentials. Instead, all users will need to link their WebFiling account to a GOV.UK One Login account to continue filing.
A few key changes to be aware of:
- Only one person will be able to connect a WebFiling account to their GOV.UK One Login.
- Anyone else who needs access will require their own GOV.UK One Login – using a separate email address.
- The system will also become the gateway for identity verification of directors and Persons with Significant Control (PSCs) ahead of further Companies House reforms coming in from November 2025.
What should you do now?
- Check your email addresses – Make sure the email you use for WebFiling is still active and monitored. If you also use “Find and update company information,” aim to use the same address across both platforms.
- Set up a GOV.UK One Login – If you haven’t already, you can create an account in advance using your existing WebFiling email. This will smooth the connection process when the change goes live. To set up a GOV.UK One Login you need to visit https://www.gov.uk/using-your-gov-uk-one-login and follow the guidance provided.
- Gather authentication codes – You may be asked to confirm the company’s authentication code when linking accounts.
- Review user access – If your team shares a single WebFiling login, each person will need their own account under the new system. It’s worth reviewing who needs access and planning accordingly.
- Prepare for identity verification – Directors and PSCs will soon be required to verify their identity through GOV.UK One Login. Although not mandatory until November 2025, early adoption is encouraged. Read more here.
