So, what IS Business Advisory – and why did we win an award for it?

We recognise that ‘Business Advisory’ is a widely used term amongst accountancy practices but to the majority of business people, it doesn’t mean a lot, because well frankly, it doesn’t say a lot.

So whilst we have been awarded ‘Advisory Firm of the Year’, we thought we’d take the time to explain just what the term ‘Business Advisory’ means to us at Wilson Partners.

Obviously there are 2 clues in the name – but because every business is different and every piece of advice is unique to an individual set of circumstances and desired outcomes, it is worthy of further embellishment.

Well, alongside the mandatory compliance services we offer covering Tax, Accounts, Audit, Payroll etc we like to go beyond compliance and empower clients to improve their businesses and achieve their goals.

We go about this firstly by understanding their business, finding out what their goals are – this is often quite tricky for businesses to articulate. We then help them to assess the business along with all the key stakeholders to uncover strengths, weaknesses and opportunities across seven core areas which impact all businesses, we call them the 7 pillars of success and they are:

  • Strategy and Leadership
  • Marketing
  • Sales
  • Operations
  • Team
  • Technology
  • Financial and Legal

We believe that for any business to truly reach its potential it must first ensure that each of these areas has a plan, however large or small as it will play a critical role in your success.

Once we’ve collated our findings, we can then pull together a simple, but highly effective, business plan. Your business plan is a fluid document so we believe in trying to get it onto one page, not 72 pages, so it can be regularly revisited and updated.

Then we work with our clients, creating an action plan to improve each of the key areas and to maximise any opportunities highlighted.

We work together with our clients regularly revisiting, tweaking and improving against the original benchmark.

So, call it what you like, business advisory, business improvement, profit improvement, business planning, strategic planning, exit planning, growth planning, etc, what it really comes down to is providing discipline and advice that helps you build the type of business that meets your objectives.  In other words “Goal Achievement”.

After all, every success needs a set of goals to be reached.  That’s what every firm offering ‘business advisory’ should set out to deliver.

We’re proud of the work we do with our clients and of course proud to be recognised for our efforts as Advisory Firm of the Year 2018, but we’re very lucky to have such great clients with an appetite for success.

If you’d like to be one of those clients, then we’d love to work with you. Contact us on 01628 770 770 for an informal chat.
